The Soil Science Society of Nigeria (SSSN) is deeply saddened to announce the transition of one of its most illustrious members and a titan of the Nigerian academic community, Professor Charles Arinzechukwu Igwe.
The news of his passing has thrown the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the entire soil science fraternity into deep mourning. Professor Igwe reportedly passed away following a sudden heart attack.
A Legacy of Excellence
Professor Charles Igwe was not just a former Vice-Chancellor; he was a distinguished Professor of Soil Science. His academic journey and administrative leadership left an indelible mark on the landscape of higher education in Nigeria.
During his tenure as the 15th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he was known for his commitment to academic integrity, infrastructural development, and the advancement of research. Within the SSSN, he was a respected voice, contributing decades of research to the field of soil chemistry and mineralogy.
